WHITE BLOOD CORPUSCLES (WBCs)

WHITE BLOOD CORPUSCLES(WBCs)

  • Also called leucocyte
  • Have nucleus
  • number of WBC = 6000 – 8000/mm3
  • Life span = few hours to several days/month/whole life times
  • Size = 10-20 micron
  • Formation of WBCs in Bone Marrow
  • Function = Provide immunity
  • Shape = Irregular/ amoeboid shape
  • Increases in number of leucocyte = Total leucocyte Count (TLC)
  • Decreases in number of leucocyte = Differential leucocyte count
  • TLC increases in Bacterial and Viral infection, but in case of typhoid and AIDS, TLC decreases.
  • They are colorless due to lack of haemoglobin.

TYPES OF WBCs/ LEUCOCYTES

WBCs or leucocytes

  1. AGRANULOCYTE
  2. GRANULOCYTE

leucocytes

  1. AGRANULOCYTE:-

  • Cytoplasm clear
  • AGRANULOCYTE further divided into two types:-
  • MONOCYTE
  • LYMPHOCYTE
  • LYMPHOCYTE divided into two types:-
  • T-LYMPHOCYTE
  • B-LYMPHOCYTE
  • T-LYMPHOCYTE Further divided into 3 types:-
  • T-KILLER/ CYTOTOXIC
  • T- HELPER/ HELPER T-CELL
  • T-SUPPRESSOR

MONOCYTES:-

  • Macrophages Phagocyte

WBCs

LYMPHOCYTE :- Provide Immunity

  • T-LYMPHOCYTE:-

Formed in bone marrow and mature in thymus

  1. T-KILLER/ CYTOTOXIC:- Kill bacteria and viruses
  2. T-HELPER/ HELPER T-CELL:- Stimulate B-lymphocyte to produce Antibody.
  3. T-SUPPRESSOR:- Suppress T-KILLER and protect Immune System.
B-LYMPHOCYTE:-
  • Produced in bone marrow and mature also in bone.
  • Produced ANTIBODY

  1. GRANULOCYTE:-

  • Cytoplasm is granular
  • GRANULOCYTE is further divided into 3 types:-
  • ACIDOPHIL/ EOSINOPHIL
  • BASOPHIL
  • NEUTROPHIL

ACIDOPHIL/EOSINOPHIL:-

  • Level of Eosinophil rises during Allergy
  • Histamine secretion

 BASOPHIL:-

  • Secrete Heparin (natural anti-blood coagulant), Serotonin (vasoconstrictor) and Histamine (vasodilator)

NEUTROPHIL:-

  • Phagocytic in nature…
  • Phagocytic :- phagocytes are the cells that protects the body by ingesting harmful foreign particles, bacteria and dead cells.
